Basil Blackshaw was born in County Antrim in 1932 and studied at the Belfast
College of Art. His work has been exhibited in many one-person and group
shows, beginning in 1952 in the Donegall Place Gallery in Belfast and including
the Living Art, Rosc, the Kerlin gallery in Dublin, the Arnolfini in Bristol,
the Tate in London and the Watergate Gallery in Washington DC. A major retrospective
of his work opened in Belfast in 1995 and toured to several venues in Ireland
and the United States. Between 1986 and 1990 he designed the posters for
the production of the Field Day Company. He is a member of Aosdána. |
