Caroline McCarthy, born in Dublin, studied at NCAD and received an MA
in fine art from Goldsmiths College, London in 1998. A diverse practice
combining video, photography and sculpture, McCarthy's work stems from an
interest in the plethora of everyday objects and familiar imagery we find
ourselves surrounded by. Through a process of play, juxtaposition and transformation
of the familiar, her approach is one which seeks to understand the relationship
proffered between thing and person, between artwork and viewer - symbol
and imagination. The recipient of an AIB Art Award 2001, recent exhibitions
include, Tirana Biennale, Albania, 2001. Tourist Conspiracy Project, De
Fabrik, Eindhoven, 2000. Cabin Fever, Herold Gallery, Bremen, Germany, 1999,
Postneoamateurism, New Work U.K., Chisenhale Gallery, London, 1998 and a
solo exhibition will take place at Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin in 2002. |
