Anita Groener was born in the Netherlands in 1958 and studied painting
at the 'Hogeschool voor de Kunsten', in Arnhem. She moved to Ireland in
1982 and now lives and works in Dublin. This relocation prompted Anita to
explore the contradictory emotions concerned with displacement. By employing
a complex layering system, Groener's work becomes 'veiled' through the use
of text, colour and delicate objects. The sometimes impenetrable density
of the work, seeks to create a type of disjointed visual tapestry. The work
is made by covering and revealing surfaces in order to piece together an
understanding of the past, present and future as well as issues of nationality
and cultural identity. Anita has exhibited widely within Ireland and Europe
and is represented in the collections of The Arts Council of Ireland, Dublin
Institute of Technology, Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Ireland
and the AIB and ABN-AMRO Banks. |
