Patrick Scott was born in January 1921 in Kilbrittain, County Cork, the son of a farmer. Although best known today as an artist, for many years he practiced as an architect, working with Michael Scott after graduating from University College, Dublin. While in the Scott practice, where he became chief assistant in 1953 and a partner in 1960, he spent five years working on the building of Dublin's Busáras, where he carried out the striking mosaic decorations. First exhibiting pictures in 1944, he did not begin devoting the majority of his time to painting and tapestry design until 1961; in the previous year he represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale. |
